The Victorian Government is widening and upgrading the Monash Freeway to ease congestion and improve traffic flow. The Monash Freeway Upgrade is an important part of the $5.5 billion Western Distributor Project, a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The network-wide solution will increase safety and reliability by streamlining the M1 from Geelong to Pakenham. The upgrade involves adding around 30kms of extra traffic lanes, as well as installing smart roadway technology such as ramp signals, Lane Use Management Signs (LUMS) and Automatic Incident Detection (AID).
Existing building condition surveys were carried out prior to commencement of construction works, involving 2500 residential properties, 100 commercial properties and numerous industrial buildings.
Through the use of a tablet based mobile data capture platform, recorded data including GPS position of photos and video, along with comments on conditions; automated PDF report generation; table of defects and cloud-based data management was utilised. Surveys were facilitated through the use of an online survey booking system and dedicated telephone hotline.
